Now that you have the dog boots in your hand, you must be wondering, how do I put these on? You are not alone in this. I myself was ln the same boat as you when I first bought my dog some booties of his own. This task is especially hard for those dog owners who have squirmy furry friends that do not like their paws being touched. This article can help you put your dog’s boots on without any effort.
Why Do Dogs Need Booties?
Dog booties have an array of uses. I know when I got my dog some booties, I wanted to take my active pointer out on a hike. I needed those boots to protect his feet from the elements along the trail. There are some that need the dog boots to keep the hot asphalt from burning their dog’s paws when they go on a walk. Dog boots are also used for therapy when some dogs lose muscles in their legs. Non-slip booties help them get right back on their feet. Some dog booties are also weatherproof so they can be used in winter as well as during the rainy seasons.
For whatever reason that you may need them, dog boots are here to protect our dogs when we are out on a walk. These boots are also a good way of giving your dog support when walking on hardwood floors to avoid slipping. To learn more about why dogs need boots of their own, click here to see the full article.
Getting The Right Measurements For Your Dog
One of the most important steps in purchasing dog booties is getting the correct measurements of your dog’s paws. When you measure incorrectly, you are putting your dog in an uncomfortable situation. It can also mean a whirlwind of frustration for you. The dog boots that you have purchased could fall off while you are walking and you might end up tracing back where they may have fallen off. When you do get the correct measurements, these dog boots can serve their purpose and can sometimes be a lifesaver. Each dog brand would have its own dog shoe size chart and how to measure guides for us owners. Sometimes they even specify which size is best for each breed.

Buying The Right Dog Booties
As the times are changing, we can now order everything online and have it shipped to us with ease, not even ever leaving the house. This could be an advantage or a disadvantage for some people. Ordering online means that you don’t get to see the product you are buying before making the purchase. Much like when we buy clothes online, we can never be too sure when ordering anything that would require measurements. My advice is to still go out and try the dog boots out for yourselves so you can pick and choose what fits best.
How To Put Booties On My Pooch?
Now that you have your boots, It is now time to put them on your dog. Lucky for you if you have a dog that does not mind their paws being touched. But just like my dog, there are some that would fight their way just to not put these boots on. However your dog may love or hate their booties, here are some tips on how to put them on your dog safely and securely.
Standing Up
You can put your dog’s booties while they are standing up. Just follow these steps:
- In a standing position, straddle your dog facing his head. Secure them with your legs and not move as much (this is best for bigger dogs)
- Lift one of the front paws and put the booties on with the lock system open (velcro or hook and loop).
- Once booties are on, place paw back down flat on the floor making sure the soles of the booties match up with your pooch’s paws.
- Once in place, fasten the booties with the locking system. If you have double velcros, make sure top velcro is secure on your dog’s legs and would not fall off.
- Repeat with the other front paw.
- Turn around facing your pooch’s hind legs and repeat steps as with the front paws.
Lying Down
If your dog refuses to cooperate, one neat trick is to put these on while they are lying down. This is how I usually put them on:
- While laying down, place your dog’s paws on your lap and prepare the booties.
- Lift one of the front paws and put the booties on with the lock system open (velcro or hook and loop).
- Once booties are on, use the palm of your hand to make sure the soles of the booties match up with your pooch’s paws.
- Once in place, fasten the booties with the locking system. If you have double velcros, make sure top velcro is secure on your dog’s legs and would not fall off.
- Repeat with the other front paw and hind paws.
